Open Door Policy in China

The open door policy in China was created by John Hay in 1899. It was created to allow United States to trade with China and other countries. That meant that countries couldn't form monopolies and trade with other parts of China. The US was worried that China was separating into colonies which american traders wouldn't be able to trade there. The other imperialist powers unwillingly agreed to the policy.Eventually there was some dissagreement and europeans took over some of China's larger cities. In China though, there was several organizations brewing. The most famous group was the Boxers. That's what westerners called them because the members of that group practiced martial arts. The boxers killed many missionaries, foreiners and even chinese that converted to christianity. Eventually, troops of Germany, France, Britain, Japan, and about 2500 american solders joined and marched into the chinese capital to take down the Boxers. After about two years, the joined nations eventually took down the Boxer Rebellions. Thousands of chinese died during the war.
