Where did immigrants come from?
Old and New immigrants-
The old immigrants were liked more by the the people than the new immigrants because they fell under the acronym W.A.S.P.

Old immigrants
Nativism- Group of people that only wanted W.A.S.P. immigrants
Steps to america-
- 1- Leaving home
- It was common for one person to come first
- Would eventually bring others
- From 1900-1910, 95% of people were meeting family and friends
- 2- Board the ship
- Ticket to America was $30
- Three types of accommodations- First class, Second Class and Steerage (3rd Class)
- 1 out of 10 people died on the way over
- Conditions were overcrowded, dark and unsanitary
- They would play cards, sing, dance and talk.
- 3- Inspection
- Passengers were inspected for contagious diseases such as cholera, plague, smallpox, typhoid fever, scarlet fevers, yellow fever, measles, diphtheria.

What problems/issues did immigrants face on the trip over and once they got here?
People struggled with passing the tests to get into america
Why did some people want to put restriction on immigration? What were those restrictions?
