Ray continued;Iron was hard to work with because it is soft and tends to break and rust.It contains elements such as carbon but when removed it became steel.Steel is a lighter, more flexible and rust-resistant metal.Henry Bessemer;came up with the idea for Bessemer steel process.Pattillo Higgins;He was a merchant and a lumber merchant. he questioned that there was oil underneath the springs.Cpt. Anthony F. Lucas.experienced prospector.he was the only one that believed Pattillo about the springs.it wasn't till 1900' when they found investors and started to drill.After months of difficult and frustrating work oil began to pour out.which started the Texas Oil Boom.Black gold;Crude oil had been used only for fuel and medicine. It wasn't until the 1940s that americans used kerosene to light lamps.Edwin L. Drake.during 1859 he successfully drilled with a steam engine for oil mear Titusvill, Pennsylvania.The oil Texas boom had started in Kentucky, Ohio, illionois, indiana then made it to Texas.reasons why industial revolution took off.A wealth of natural resources,government support on businesses,(la se fare) government let businesses do what they please.a growing urban population, cheap labor, immigrants will work next to nothing, but they would come and provide cheap labor. but it also provided a market for goods.inventions; thomas edison, light bulbs, wasn't the inventor, just made it better. but he get's the credit for creating it.helped so people can see better in like businesses and home.typewriter, helped busnesses because they could actually type so they can read it.telephone. helped so they could comunicate with people.Austin; 6-2Age of the railroads,What impact did they have on the u.s.?-cities were built next to the railroad.it also provided jobs for people.why were many people upset with railroads?- They were maybe forced to sell land, they were loud, farmers were upset because they were getting overcharged to use the railroad, to send stuff.what did grangers /government do to regulate against the railroads?-farmers made granger laws, series of state laws where it would set maximum railroad rates, so it's fair. like how much it costs. Court case mun vs. illinois.. railroad companies thought it was unfair that the law was passing the law that it has to be a certian amount to ride train.interstate converse act icc, five people and would go around and see if the prices were all the same.The age of railroads made local transportation and shipping available to small towns and cities.made time zones and standard time to be set.a lot of it is transporting people and goods from place to place.in 1856 railroads had extened to the mississippi river and three years later to the missour.a decade later people cheered because the pasific union and central union making the transcontanetal railroad.New towns and marketsBy linking previously isolated towns and cities, new markets and industries developed.such as chicago for its stockyards and minneapolis for it's grain industries.these cities among others owe their prosperity if not their existance.
