Today in CWI Mr. Bruns told us what will be on the oral test we are going to possibly take this week. He then gave everyone in class a topic for our next assigned blogs. My topic was why we went to war with Iraq in 1990. Next we went over the Europe map. This test will be next week.We then continued discussing our blogs about failed states. A failed state cannot control or protect anything, its when a country no longer has control over their land and the government is not the head of them anymore. When there is a war or an invasion or even a natural disaster a failed state can happen. If your located by a country that is in a war you could end up being a failed state. An example of this is Chad. Chad's the fourth ranked failed state. Number two is Zimbabwe and number one is Somalia.Next we talked about the story of Somalia. Mohammad was 18 years old. He was born right after the dictator of the country died. They haven’t had a government since 1991. Mohammad lived his whole life throughout chaos. His dad got hurt so Mohammed had to work to supply the family with food. He made about $60 a month. Somaliland is a part of Somalia that wants to be its own country. The united nations have not accepted that yet. They are at peace and are a glimmer of hope. Ethiopia invaded Somalia. Some people say we shouldn’t do nation building and others like it. The United States are trying to help Iraq and Afghanistan and wants to stay there until these countries are stable. Some cases nation building works and sometimes it doesn’t work I learned a lot about Somalia today.
