A lot of people died building the railroads, because it was very dangerous work, such as digging through the mountains.Transcontinental Railroad-Connected Iowa, Nebraska, Utah, all the way to California. It was one of the longest railroads at that time. It was led onto by the Golden Spike. The president of the railroad company dug in the Golden Spike. The railroads were built mainly by immigrants, mainly from China and Ireland. The railroad made our country smaller, and flat. Stanford was the person who dug in the golden spike, which was in Utah.
