5.1 cultures clash on the prarie-white men didnt think of indians as peaceful people-didnt get along with them because of that-horse and buffalo-never had any until late 1500's-buffallo was a main food sourcxe in the 1800's-horses used to explore-most families lived together-- extended close together-thought of land as a whole instead of individual land-kids learned through stories and urban legends-settlers never thought indians owned the land because they never did anything to improve it-most migration to the West happened because gold, silver, farming, hunting, adventuring, sheep, cattle, escape problems, law.-1834- great plains served as reservations for reservations-1850's -government designated areas for specific tribes-many people wanted to treat indians with respect, but they had to change their beliefs into a white culture-DAWES ACT- gave 160 acres of land to individual native americans, land that had been broken up off reservations..not who they are.-killed off the buffalo.
