Apposed to abortion, but not entirely. Paul supports border security. States are allowed to say if weed is legal there. Not doing well in the polls.

  • Chris Christie- (R) Pro life. Track illegal immigrants through FedEx packaging. Tired of minimum wage. Doesn't want weed at all. Against gay marriage. Small business tax. Drug addicted people should be given treatment not jail time.

Issues:

  • Gay Marriage- Legalized this summer. June 26, 2015 Democrats think it's okay. We need to stay a nation under God. How can we claim to be that if we can't even bring a bible into court room to make a decision. It's nuts how we're criticized for flying the Confederate flag which is a part of our history, while the gays are being praised for altering the American flag. The reason our nation is falling apart is because we're ignoring God. Not just a crazy coincident. Hate the sin, love the sinner.
  • Illegal Immigration- People who cross the nation's borders illegally. Most people think of Mexicans when we mention the word, illegal immigrants, but it can be anyone who comes illegally to our country, even Canadians. Birthright citizenship- If you are born here, you are granted citizenship. Anchor babies- Babies who are born in the US and belong to illegal immigrants. Top country to get immigrants from is Mexico. There are roughly 11 million illegal immigrants in America. Green card- grants them legal status in America. Both parties want tighter control at the border.
  • Gun Control- Republicans are generally against tightening on gun control while Democrats are generally more for it. They want to ban assault rifles. Handguns cause the most deaths. Gun control laws get pressed after things like mass shootings and assassinations. In the 30's they started tightening gun regulations because of gangs having automatic weapons. Brady bill was past after the attempt to kill Ronald Reagan. A lot of countries think we're crazy for letting people own guns so freely. Most countries have much tighter gun control regulations. The more people own guns the more deaths from guns there are typically. There are more suicides by guns than there are homicides by guns. NRA- educates people on how to handle guns, many people think they have too much say in congress.
  • Taxes- Republicans think that we need to budget our money better instead of taxing people more. Democrats want to tax the rich more, but they lack detail. Republicans would help the rich out more while the Democrats would hurt them more. 16th Amendment to the US Constitution gives the government power to tax us. Income tax- a tax on peoples' income, usually taken out through your paycheck. The top three things our taxes goes to are the military, health care, and then interest on federal debt. Trickle down theory- cut taxes for everybody, so the big businesses hire more people, helping the people with money eventually helps the people without money.
  • Minimum Wage- They've been trying to raise the minimum wage to $10.10. Republicans are more likely to vote against increasing minimum wage because it hurts business. Democrats would want to increase it to help out workers. Adults would benefit the most by increasing minimum wage because then less of them would have to spend money on going to college. We shouldn't have to increase minimum wage to a price that you could live on. They're starter jobs. If you want to have a job that you get paid to live off of, go to college.
  • Health Care- 1910 is when insurance would start providing for people. Obama Care- people have to health insurance, allows people who can't afford health care an opportunity to get it, stronger consumer protection. Republicans would rather have it patients centered, says it's too socialistic. Democrats enjoy the affordable health care insurance. Can stay under your parents till you are 26, this helps with debt while going to school.
  • ISIS- Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. Muslim organization to restore their religion. Many think we need stronger military force against them. We use airstrikes against them a lot. Trying to take over Syria, pretty much already have. Formed completely in 2003, started in 1999. They get most of their money from oil fields. They're in control of many things that they can get money from, can be related to the mafia. Terrible group. Original name was Al Qaeda in Iraq. Mostly the younger generation joins them while the older ones would typically join Al Qaeda.
  • War in Afghanistan- Started with the planes crashing on 9/11. Bush was president during this time. Officially signed the papers on October 7th. Democrats want to expand NATO forces in Afghan to stop it from becoming a terrorist haven. Want to stop terrorist funds by financial sanctions against nations or banks. Remove US bases in the region. Republicans want to stand behind the Bush administration. Want to find weapons they're making. Want to destroy their leadership. Don't want to negotiate. Maintain peace and stability in the region. Many have been freed while we were over there. Longest war we have been in by far. Don't want to leave too early like we did in Iraq. Everyone agreed we needed to go to war in the beginning.
  • Marijuana- Medical is legal in 24 states and Washington D.C. Anyone over 21 can smoke in Alaska, Washington D.C. and Oregon. Illegal to smoke in public anywhere. 53% of people think that it should be legal. Democrats are more likely to support it. Republicans are more likely to go against it. The use of it for medical use is much more supported than the use of it for recreation. People say that they use it to help get rid of both physical pain and depression. Some say we should legalize is so we can tax it since people are already smoking it. Probably won't be much longer before it becomes legal nationwide. People say then cops can focus on bigger problems, prisons won't be as packed, not as bad as alcohol and tobacco. Say that we should keep it illegal cause it's still not good for you, especially to younger people with underdeveloped brains, call it a gateway drug, morally not the right thing to do. 7% of people reported smoking pot, probably a little higher than that. It's a schedule 1 drug since we did not know exactly what it does to people.
  • Death Penalty- 1,414 executions since 1976. 31 states have the death penalty. Lethal injection is a common way. Many people say it is cruel and unusual. Republicans are more for it while Democrats seem to be more against it. Democrats say it is not a deterrent and innocent people are in jeopardy. Republicans say it is necessary and effective ind deterring people from committing crimes. The average death row time is 16.5 years. Methods: lethal injection, electrocution, gas chamber, firing range, hanging. Furman v. Georgia mad in unconstitutional in 1972.
  • Climate Change- Long term change in the Earth's climate. The atmosphere is heating up. Some say that it's us putting greenhouse gases in the air. Some say that it's just natural changes while others say we're the ones melting glaciers and creating stronger storms. Started in the late 20th century. Over 90% of scientists say that we're the ones who are causing it. Mostly from developed countries. 1000 tons of carbon dioxide dumped every second. 1 million species face extinction. Democrats think that climate change is real, promote clean energy jobs, reduce carbon pollution, tree huggers. Republicans just say that it happens naturally or just think that it really isn't a concern that we should be focused on right now. You can argue that global warming is not human caused, but you can not say that global warming isn't happening. Is it really a huge crisis though? Some say yes, others say it's not a problem. Rising temperature, deforestation, rising water levels, droughts, wild fire, more bugs, stronger storms.
  • Abortion- The deliberate termination of human pregnancy. Illegal- no mother could get an abortion legally. Legal- mother's choice. Became legal in 1973. Roe v. Wade made it legal. 1/2 of all pregnancies are unintended- 4 in 10 of those end in abortion. Democrats think that this is perfectly okay, especially in cases of rape, incest and life of the mother. Republicans usually know that this is wrong, it's killing, life started when the baby is conceived. They want to defund Planned Parenthood. For some reason it's okay for the mother to kill the child but not someone else? Prevention- abstinence, contraception, morning after pill, pull out. Plenty of other options besides abortion if you were to get pregnant.
