Monday- We continued to work on our issue presentations. Presentations may begin this Wednesday. We also went over more of the Europe map test...first class quiz tomorrow during class over western part of Europe!
Climate change could create 100 million poor and millions more homeless. COP21- Meeting of where countries meets to talk about climate change. This December people will meet in France for the 21st time. Entire countries could disappear, for drought, extinction of animals if we cross the 2 degrees Celsius mark in our changing temperatures.
Donald Trump was on SNL on Saturday- famous for doing put downs and being in comedy acts. Live tweeted put downs during the show and was made apart of the sketch in that way. I didn't personally think it was that funny.
Tuesday- Tonight is the Republican Debate (no extra credit). Our class took the class quiz of Europe and got 10/10.
Veteran's Day is tomorrow- It used be known as Armistice Day and is the end of World War 1 on the November 11th, 1918 on the 11th day of the 11th hour of the 11 month. At 11 AM on Veteran's Day, Arlington holds a ceremony for the unknown soldiers. It was changed to Veteran's Day because they wanted honor every veteran, not just those who died in World War 1. Memorial Day is similar, but it honors our dead, while Veteran's day honors are current and past veterans who are currently deployed.
President of Missouri resigns because of protests saying that he didn't do enough to combat racism.
Wednesday- Today we started our presentations on our chosen issues. We also covered more of our European map.
Child Labor (Katelyn and Greich)-
- deprives a child from childhood; harmful to mental and physical development (very dangerous work)
- kids are working all the time in fields and factories; cheap labor
- 215 million children working full-time
- signed off by parents to pay off there debt
- other times kidnapped and lured away from families to work
- are subjected to little care, poor nutrition, little pay, and hazardous environments
- there is slavery, drug trafficking, prostitution, agriculture (most common), machinery, and mining
- sweatshop- factory. workers work long hours in poor conditions an are subjected to physical/verbal abuse (located in India and Bangladesh)
- Many girls wanted in carpet industry since they have small, fast-working fingers
- Products in sweatshops- shoes, carpets, children toys, banana farms, chocolate, shirts
- monitors of sweatshops call ahead to arrange visists- gives time for factory to clean up and get ready- get rid of child workers
- Government turns back on it
- Hourly wage in Bangladesh is $.13 an hour
