Today in CWI we talked about how blogs are getting erased for some reason. Bruns says he needs to talk to his peeps at ning haha. After that we went over the maps. He could not find any old copies so the test next week has to be orally. We continued talking about our Iraq blogs. Throughout the 1990's Saddam played the cat and mouse game with us. He wasn’t supposed to do this but he did. Then we talked about who won the Persian Gulf War. Bruns said it depends who you ask. He said no doubt we won the war easily. We invaded Iraq in 2003 to look for weapons of mass destruction. We felt that they had these there. This is based on CIA had given info to the president that said they were buying uranium from some African countries. With that info we felt they were making them. We never did find them though. This is one of the reasons bush was one of the not so popular presidents since we never found nuclear weapons so everyone thought he lied to us. Another reason we invaded was to make Saddam not a terrorist and to free Iraqi people.US role in the United Nations. Bruns talked about this topic because no one in the class did it. Key moments in the bush administration: The first one was the invasion in 2003, when Iraq became a democracy, capture of Saddam we did not kill him, he said we would pull troops out of the city by summer of 2009, and "the surge" which is when we sent more troops to Iraq.Obama administration key moments: he has moved some of the troops from Iraq to Afghanistan. Also he wants to add 83.4 billion for the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan. The focus is Afghanistan according to Obama. In February he said we are going to be out of Iraq in 18 months. He is calling for a possible surge in Afghanistan.Consequences of war in Iraq: 90,000 Iraq civilians have died because of the war. 17% of the Iraq people suffer from mental disorders because of what they see going on.
