Today in CWI Bri, Erin, Jessica, and DJ finished presenting their power point on Climate change. Since we had to stop in the middle of their power point we went over the topics that we had already done on Friday. We reviewed the Kyoto Protocal and talked about how the united states hasnt ratified it yet. Bruns said we will definately need to know about this topic. Then we picked up with talking about the IPCC summary. 52 scientists participated in this summary. In order to explain global warming we have to consider the cosmioc rays, the pacific deeadal oscillation. How the sun has decreasing magnetic field, the earths decreasing magnetic field, sun spots and contrails. Climate Change in 2007 is like an election in which the USSR chooses one canidate. Bruns said this statement doesnt make sense. Global warming is a extremely complex and important problem. The results on the IPCC summary is that we are hitting global warming and its because of the people. Then they showed graphs that showed changes in temperature, sea level and northern hemisphere snow cover. You can do simple thinigs to help with this problem. Things like not washing one item at a time. Wait until you have a full load to do it. Help by turning computers and other electronic things off when not in use. If possible walk or bike instead of driving. When its cold instead of turning heat up dress warmer. Plant trees. They absorb the carbon dioxide thats polluting the air. Use alternate forms of energy that arent fossil fuels. Tell younger people about global warming and what they can do to help. These are things that individuals can do.A big part of what the government is doing is in reference to teh Kyoto Protocal. There are 183 countries that have agreed to it at this point and a lto have made it a low which will help a lot. If the U.S ratifies it now it will be in even better shape as we are 1 of the 2 top produvers of greenhouse gases. Our goverment has also issued a law called the Clean Air Act and one of the stipulations for that is companies have to change either the way they produce things or their products. Its also made automobile companies change few things as cares are one of the major polluters of air.Us and China are the top to producers of China. Obama met with them last week and this was one of the topics. The two countries have agreed to work together to advance technology and work on reducing carbon emissions that we produce. There is an upcoming conference about climate change set to start on december seventh. While they are there they are going to try to expland on the Kyoto Protocal and keep making things better. Then Jena, Haley, and Dru presented their power point on over population. Definition is when there are too many people in one place that they is deteration in teh environment and not enough resources. There are four main reasons. They are decline in death rate, increased birth rate, migration, lack of education. The effects of overpopulation are natural rescources get used up faster and they cant be replaced very fast. You destroy bilogical diveristy. Lowering water levels by using mnore electricity, etc. Polluting are, water, soil, and food chain. Delapaeting stratosphereic o zone that shields us from UV rays. Heat waves, devastating drouts, dying forests, accelerated species extiniction, dying coral reegs, melting glaciers, rising sea levels, more frequent and intense storms, and more rapid spread of disease.Educaions is key for solutions to overpopulation. Teaching teh general public about teh seriousness of overpopulation is one of the ways to stop overpopulation. An alternative solution is to limit two babies per women. Rreducing the number of humans is the ultimate way to stop overpopulation. The highest amounts of overpopulation is in asia. China is very overpopulated with 1,325,639,982 people. The united states has a population of 303,824,640. They got done with their power point and the bell rang.
