Today in CWI we finished talking about the Friedman video. Linux is an example open sourcing. Mozilla Firefox is an alternative to windows internet explorer. Outsourcing is when a main company is still here but certain parts of the industry are overseas. They do some jobs that can be done overseas and they will work for less there. Goggle is an example of informing. Informing is the name for search. He can inform himself and learn data by himself. Tivo is also a form of informing.Open sourcing is free alternatives. Open office is free. Wikapeda is an open sourcing alternative. Wikapada's biggest strength is that you can change things on it but it is also its biggest weakness.You have to horizantalize your self all of us think vertically is what Friedman says about how we can change the flat world. We have to think globally. They have to be able to adapt. If you can't adapt you are going to struggle five years from now. Bruns has adapted. If the school was going to all online he would be ready for that. Florida has an online school. Don't think everything is going to stay the same.We should be concerned about the flat world because we have to compete with so many people for jobs. We have created a global web enabled platform for multiple forms of sharing knowledge and work irrespectable of time distance geography and language. The flat world time doesn’t matter.Next we went into blog discussion. I learned about a safehouse. It is where people who get abused can go to get help and have a family enviornment. It used to be that African Americans could go there to escape slavery. There are millions of kids and adults that don't have birth certificates. It can prevent you from voting, getting married, or even getting a passport. There is a guy going around helping people get their birth certificates. There was a shooting in Texas. The guy that did the shooting had been talking to a known terrorists for a book that he was writing. Nobody thought it was a big deal but now they think that could explain the shooting. He walked into the room and put his head down and then sat up and started shooting. He was shot by guards.There was a mom that had to choose their son or go to the military. She chose to take care of him because she didnt have anyone that could take care of him while she was gone. So the military is mad at her. In Kansas City Missouri a lady came forward and said she got raped and she had a baby and they buried it. She told the news about it after other victims came out about it. On Monday they found a body of a five year old girl in north carolina. Her mother was charged. She was trying to sell her child for prostiution. Another guy is in prision because they saw him carrying the girl around. The girl is dead. We will finish blog discussions tomorrow and then have a work day to work on our projects that are now due on Friday.
