Today in class we watched The World Is Flat video.1. Describe what the “flat world” means before watching the lecture?Means That technology is advancing so fast we could pretty much talk to anyone in the world.2. Briefly describe Globalization 1.0.Early 1492 to 1800 Countries globalizing for land, power wealth economics. Large to Medium.3. Briefly describe Globalization 2.0.1800 to 2000 Medium to Small. Companies globalized for money and marketing.4. Briefly describe Globalization 3.0.2000 to present. Small to Tiny. Personal Globalization and small groups. Yourself can globalize. All different ethnic groups and religions.5. Why was the Berlin Wall a flattener of the world?11/9/1989. Made us think and let us believe the world is a flat plain. The walls went down and the windows came up.6. What was the importance of Netscape going public on 8-9-95?Most important days of western civilization. Gave us the first commercial browser and internet. Let grandma and grandpa be able you use it along with kids. Triggered .com and the .com bubble. Brought internet alive and connected to everything.It was free and had no cost. Netscape went public and lots of people put money in tech companies. Then they started puting Fiberoptic Cable in the ground which connects the internet. Made people from China be in your back yard.7. What is outsourcing/offshoring and why are many Americans opposed to it?Outsourcing new form the collaberation. Trying to cut cost. Ex---Do taxes at HNR block but they ship it out Asia they do it for less pay then they ship it back.Offshoring another form of collaberation. Where a factory would close down and move to a different country for less cost.Americans don't like this because lose American jobs.8. Give two examples of “open-sourcing”.New form of collaberation. Bunch of Geeks. Stick it to Microsoft. Ex---Mozilla Fire Fox, Linuxs Operating System. Free Altenitives.In-Sourcing///Companies bring in another company to do work for them cause there better at it. Toshiba to UPS is a exaple or Nike threw UPS is another one.9. What does Friedman mean by “informing”?That's his name for google and his search engine.10. What are the “steroids” according to Friedman?Wireless, voice over the internet, and file sharing.11. According to Friedman, how do people need to change in the future to succeed in a “flat world”?You have to Horizontalize yourself. Think Globally. Adaptablity is another one. Mr.Bruns thinks in 20 years you can take online classes.12. Why should young people be concerned with the “flat world”?Competeting with everyone else in the world.13.
