Fashion- most men wore tight fit shoes.. bow ties... 3 piece suits... vest.. bowler and derby hats... 

Fads- board games... they had more free time... board games were mad for educational and religions purposes... round the world... finger pool.. bulls and bears...(all examples of board games..... they also played with bikes..... 

Inventions- the Jukebox(Henry Perky).. Escalator (Jesse W. Reno)...Shredded wheat(Henry Perky).. Tractor(gas powered)(invented by John Froelich) 

World Fairs- Trans- Mississippi Expedition- in Omaha 1898... was held to show the development of the east coast... lasted 5 months....Tennessee Centennial and International Expedition.... was held in Nashville(1897)... celebrated the 100th year of entry into the union 

Famous People- Thomas Edison... invented the light bulb

Presidents- Grover Cleveland.... Benjamin Harrison... 

1900's-

Music- Classical... Gustav Mualler was a famous person in the music .. Impressionism... more Jazz was very popular.. live jazz bands.. and jazz shows... 

Wednesday- 

1990's continued- 

Fashion- women- revolved around more of the English people... corsets (the hour shape glass).. loved the big hair.. fashion was explosive at that time.. Men: mustaches were in... hats were in style.. suites... Children: girls had neckline..  and shorter dresses... people tried corrupting girls legs by putting stuff on them to keep them small.. boys went for more of the sailor outfit look.. 

Summer Olympics: sports became more popular.. first summer one was in Paris, France... college sports... women basketball... baseball... women's tennis.. women still had to wear dresses during sports... 

Famous people- Walt Disney starting taking off with his creation of Micky Mouse... Wright Brothers for creating the first plane... Oscar Wilde was a famous book writer.. selfish giant was a famous children book.... Roosevelt (President) 

Fads- The teddy bear was invented at that time.. automobiles were huge... little toy models of cars... ping pong was popular... 

Inventions- Another version of the escalator .... vacuum cleaner.. razer for shaving... radio... air conditioner.. polygraph which would tell you if someone was lying by poking them with a needle and when they talked it would either spike up and down or stay the same.. reinvention of a tractor.. washer machine.. helicopters... color photographs.. gun silencer.. 

World Fairs- Pan- American exposition... May 1, 1901... Buffalo, New York... $7 million dollars... was held to celebrate how far america... President McKinley assassination during this... St. Louis world fair... April 30th-December 1st,,, 1904... 1,500 buildings... 1,200 acres... held an Olympic game

Elections- William McKinley- 1896-1900... his second term for presidency he was assassinated.. Theodore Roosevelt.. 1901-1904-1908.. William H. Taft.. 1908-1912

Civil Rights Movements- still had a long ways to go in the 1900's... still a lot of segregation... lot of movements trying to help... Jazz music made African Americans feel better.. NAACP was an association for African Americans.. people were arrested for being gay and having relationships with same sex.. a lot of men were arrested

The Great San Francisco Earthquake- April 8th, 1906.... 700 deaths..... reached southern Oregon to LA Nevada.. 

Movies- storytelling not just motion.. black n white... 5-8 mins long... "Nickelodeon era.. people would pay 5 cents to go see a movie...no sound

Music- ragtime was slowly fading out.. pop and jaz was in.. by the light of the silvery moon was a famous song back then... 1918 was the first time they sang the National Anthem at a sporting event..

Movies- 1914 the Wizard of Oz Was presented... 1915 Alice in the Wonderland... 1916 Sherlock Holmes.. 1917 Jack in the Bean Stock... 

Sports- baseball.. boxing.. tennis..golf.. horseback riding... hockey.. 1911.. first indie car 500 was held in Indianapolis... 1912 fin way park became one of the famous baseball park.. Jesse Owens was born,,, Jackie Robbins was born... 1919 the Chicago White Sox scandal... 1919 Green Bay Packers became a team.. 1914 Babe Ruth.. 

Fashion- women's pair of shoes was $3.79... Men still dressed up and wore suits and tux.. along with a hate... 

Fads- Ballroom dances.. ankle long dresses... movies became huge.... crossword puzzles 

Inventions- zipper.. Oreo.. stainless steal.. tank.. air conditioner.. bra.. pop up toaster... fortune cookie

Famous People- Wright brothers opened their first flight school... Henry Ford..William Hath was 27th president... Albert Einstein's theory of relativity.. 

Equality- women got the right to vote in 1920 and more rights like availability to work..

Immigration and Urbanization - 1870-1920 *Golden age of immigration* 

Why did immigrants come to the us? Land, better jobs, change of life style, escape war, religious freedom.

*Push-Pull Factors*

Push could be war, in debt/trouble, land shortages, religious or political persecution.. Pull factors could be more opportunities$$-achieve the american dream, farming, homestead act, mining, working on the railroad, cattle, ranching, factory work, reunite with family/loved ones, gold.. 

Where did immigrants come from? 

What problems/issues did immigrants face on the trip over and once they got here?

Why did some people want to put restrictions on immigrants? What were those restrictions?
