Monroe Doctrine and the Roosevelt Corollary

The Monroe Doctrine was a policy made in 1823. It was released to the public on December 2nd. It stated the any attempts by Europe to colonize or interfere with America would be considered a threat. This would mean that America would have to take action.

Also that the Western Hemisphere would no longer be colonized by Europe. By them doing that we were to not interfere with colonies already settled by Europe. Neither would we be a part of internal conflict of European countries. During the time this doctrine was made many countries from Latin America were seceding from Spain. America was afraid that Europe would try to take the countries. Great Britain then passed the Ukase of 1821 to provoke the US. This law forbid non-Russian ships to approach their coast.

In 1904, President Theodore Roosevelt amended the Monroe Doctrine. This amendment was call the Roosevelt Corollary. It stated that the US could help economic affairs of Caribbean and Central America small states that were unable to pay debts.

This was to prevent Britain and Germany to help them. Because they loaned money to countries that never repaid. That pressured German to be that much more aggressive in the Venezuela Affair of 1902 to 1903.
