For the test we should know the Treaty of Versailles and know that big countries like Italy, France, Germany, Japan, China, and the Soviet Union.

Japan invaded Manchuria because they needed resources because they had a lot of factories so they needed resources to make things.
The U.S. passed an act with Latin American countries. They didn’t really like us. We were then trying to become better neighbors and friends because we didn’t want them to have an alliance with Germany.

Hitler took little baby steps with things. He first started blaming them, then saying they were bad, then taking away their civil rights, they he made them move, then he started killing them. The definition of a Jew was if you had three grandparents who were Jews or if you had two grandparents that were Jews. Then he even went down to if you had one grandparent who was a Jew. The Jews, Gypsies, mentally handicapped, Slavic people, homosexuals, communists, dark skinned people, mixed races, twins, Catholics and Jehovah’s Witnesses were all inferior to Hitler. They were the ones that he didn’t like and he targeted. The Aryan race is ‘the perfect race’ in Hitler’s eyes. It was blonde hair, blue-eyes, muscular, tall people.
Ethiopia was invaded by Mussolini and they didn’t like it.
Francisco Franco eventually turned to the good side but before he was kind of an allie of Hitler and Mussolini.
By the late 1930’s Germany and Italy became allies.
Japan invaded the rest of China, but China was huge and they could never win. They did very well for such a small country. The Japanese government treated the Chinese terribly. They would rape the people and they would beat them and do every terrible thing that you could do to them.
The U.S. gave a Quarantine speech. We said that we were not going to trade with countries in war because of WWI when our ships kept getting sunk. They said that the peaceful countries should get together and like keep to ourselves and stay out of war. He wanted the peaceful countries to stop the ‘bad’ countries from taking over.
Our first incident with Japan was the Panay incident. They sunk one of our ships and killed three people. They apologized and gave us some money.
Austria asked, at the end of WWI, to become part of Germany. They were not allowed to. Hitler then announced a union with Austria and the joins them together. The president of Austria did not want this to happen. He was then invited to talk with Hitler and he pretty much threatened him if he didn’t go along with it. Many Austrians did not like this. Hitler then went after Czechoslovakia. A conference was held in Munich. Great Britain, Germany, Italy, and France decided what would happen at this meeting. They allowed Hitler to take Czechoslovakia and he said he wouldn’t take anymore land. He lied and he knew that they didn’t like war so he used that against them.
Winston Churchill said that they should have stepped up and told Hitler no. Everybody was like no you just want war, be quiet.
Then Kristallnacht, which was ‘the night of the broken glass’ happened. This was when the Nazi went around and broke windows out of Jewish buildings and temples. They were beat and attacked. Then they started taking Jews to concentration camps.
-The Soviet Union and Germany.
They agreed to sign a non-aggressive pact. It was that they are not going to fight each other. They hated each other and this was basically so they didn’t have to worry about them invading each other. They also agreed to trade with each other. The S.U. gave them natural resources and Germany had like weapons and stuff. They agreed to both attack Poland.
Poland was very worried about this. They eventually divided Poland.
-The Blitzkrieg-Lightning War
It was basically just a war strategy. They wanted to achieve victory as quick as possible. First they came with planes and they were to take out as many people and radios as possible. Then they would bring in the tanks to take out the infantry. Then they had more planes. Then they had the infantry come in and they also had troops in trucks. They would go in deep and then try and trap the enemy.
