Operation Barbarosa was the greatest land war in history, it began 3:30 on June 22, 1941. It was when Germany invaded the Soviet Union. Huge front, 995 miles long. By the end of the year 3,500,000 Soviets soldiers were captive and 4,000,000 died. Germany wanted to get controll over three cities and they would win. Germany knew they had to be in and out and couldn't drag it on. They wanted Stalingard, Moscow, and Leningrad. In the south they also wanted to go to the Caucasus Mountains, there was oil there that he needed. Before the Soviets stopped the Germans, Germany controlled over 90% of Stalingrad. In Nov. of 1942 the Soviets start pushing the Germans way back. It took three years to get the Germans out of Russia. As they pushed the Germans back they also took over Eastern Europe and made them communism, which is was started the Cold War. Battle of Leningrad the Germans surrounded, they didn't let anything in or out of the city. People were starving to death, 641,000 people died of starvation.

Japan invaded Manchuria in 1931. in 37 they invade rest of China. They invade French indo-china in next, we stop trading with them and then they attack Pearl Harbor. In mid 1942 the Battle of Midway and Coral Sea happened. Japan wanted the Philippines and the US had control over it.
