US aid in blockade with help of france and Britain

the treaty of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance

made in response to NATO and the remilitarization of germany

hungary tried to get out of it soviet crushed the uprising

FAIL ended in 1991

ceased the spread of communism in eight countries

did not agree to help each other militarily

dissovled after vietnam 1977

Cuban Missile Crisis

The Korean Conflict

Causes

at the end of ww2 korea was divided at the 38th parallel

soviet and US zones were occupated

in 1948 gov weer established in the country

the republic of korea was proclaimed in the south and the people's democratic republic of korea in north

Generals during the conflict

douglas macArthur- became supreme commander of the US forces under president harry truman

Mac Arthur was removed as the commander on April 10,1951

he was replaced by gen. Matthew Ridgeway as commander and cheif

the war

started on june 25, 1950

on june 27th truman authorized the use of american land sea and air forces in korea

a week later, teh united nations placed the forces of 15 other member nations under US command

truman appointed Gen. Douglas MacArthur supreme commander '

the first weeks of the conflict north korean forces met little resistance and advanced rapidly

by sep 10 they ahd driven the south korean army and the small american force to the busan area at the southeast tip of korea

a counter offensicve began on sep 15

north korean forces fell back adn macarthur recieved orders to pursue them into north korea

went back and forth for a long time

after months of fighting it was brought back to the 38th parallel and remand there for the rest of the war

After nuclear threats by eisenhower an armistice agreement was signed on July 27, 1953
