Mr. Bruns wasn’t here today. I think there was supposed to be a boy’s tennis meet but it got cancelled. He hasn’t been feeling good though so I think he might have gone to the doctor. We had the whole class period to work on our group Africa project. I also did some message board posts. Then I researched some information for our project. This congo crisis has caused over five million deaths since the year 1998. Most of the people didn’t die in battle but from problems such as diarrhea, pneumonia, and malnutrition. These are easily treatable conditions if you have good health but the people didn’t have that. Women and girl are suffering from attacks. It is one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. The war that took place there lasted from 1998 to 2002 and has lead to extreme violence afterwards. Many health services there have been lost and a wide spread rape has occurred. There was a formal peace agreement in October 2002 but that didn’t help much of anything. The International Rescue Committee provides help to the conflict with humanitarian aid. They have helping everyone recover and rebuilding the communities there.
