Japan

1. How did the Treaty of Versailles impact them?

Got a lot of Germany's northern islands..The land Germany got from China was given to Japan instead of given back to china..Got to be part of league of nations..

2. What type(s) of government did this country have in the interwar years(1919-1938)?

Two party political system where two major parties dominate the votes at almost all elections..Hara Takashi became first common person to be prime minister in 1918..Hirohito became emperor in 1926..pretty much a constitutional monarchy where the emperor is in charge but he has other people there to make sure he doesnt get too much power..

3. How did their leader, that led them throughout WWII, come to power?

Hirohito was the son of Prince Yoshihoto and princess Sakado..When his grandpa(the emperor) died Hirohito's father became emperor but when he became sick with a mental illness so Hirohito became emperor..Great depression is what really was the cause for them to reduce their navy and in 1931 the military took over and their leader by 1940 was Hideki Tojo..

4. How did this leader change their country(for the better and worse) prior to WWII?

Hirohito didn't do jack!!..Military leaders changed things more because they did stuff like reduce the navy, join the league of nations, and invade Mancuria(province in China)

5. What were the goals of the leader?
Expand their boundaries into mainland Asia..Invaded Mancuria to get resources and invade China also to get resources but mainly because Japan also wanted to dominate that area..

6. What was the military strategy of this country in the inter-war years(1919-1938)?
Attacked Pearl Harbor- thought that the US wouldn't think it was worth it to go into war..Torchered the POW's(Prisoners of War)..Wanted resources and they used Chemical weapons like when they invaded China they used some illegal gas..

7. What role did they play in WWII?

limited resources because they lived on an island so they started taking over Asia to get resources. Invaded Manchuria in 1931. Declared war on China in 1937. the us pacific fleet at pearl harbor was capable of challenging japans navy.. american bases in the phillipines could threaten lines of communication.. they wanted to destroy all american powers in the pacific..Their navy would control the American navy with an attack on pearl harbor than the would go attack the philippines..If Japan wouldn't have had control of so many islands we would have won the war a lot faster..island hopping made it a slow victory for the US

8. Who were their allies in WWII?

axis powers- germany, italy, hungary, romania, slovakia, bulgaria, croatia, and manchucho

9. How did WWII impact/effect the country?

japan was destoyed-all cities and industries damaged.. severe shortage of food.. had to have allied powers in their countries. US was in charge of watching over japan in 1945.. they lost all of the territory they had since 1894. the war crime trials.. 500 military officers commited suicide.. the emperor lost political and military power.. japan was forbidden to ever lead a war again or to have an army. this is still in use today, there are still anti-war and anti-army. .many people were effected by atomic bombs which caused things like burnings and blindness and scars.
