1. How did the Treaty of Versailles impact them?

This treaty gave Japan all of the Greamny's islands north of the equator

Gave them a seat on the league of nations
2. What type(s) of government did this country have in the interwar years(1919-1938)?

Japan had a Constitutional Monarchy

The Komintern worked to establish a communist party within Japan's gov system

They have an emperor and a Prime minister that are governed by a constitution

This time was nicknamed the Taisho Demo after their empirer
3. How did their leader, that led them throughout WWII, come to power?

Emperor Hirohito

Was born the first son of Crown Prince Yoshihito

when his grandfather died his father became emperor

he traveled all over Europe and returned to be named the regent to the thrown

He assumed the throne upon the death of his father in 1926

this ended the Taisho period and began the proclaimed Showa era

Hideki Tojo

Hideki Tojo was appointed the Army Minister in 1841

he strongly supported joining with Italy and Germany

Hirohito appointed him Prime minister bc he had strong ties with the military

His army won many battles
4. How did this leader change their country(for the better and worse) prior to WWII?

1927 outlaw war reduced military and approved china's indepence

He changed their mind from staying out of war to going and taking over land

Gain them more land for a short time
5. What were the goals of the leader?

Japan wanted to gain an easy supply of resources from China

They wanted to cripple the US

Japan wished to take Chinese lands and give them to the poor

Manchuria was to be taken as a buffer against the Soviet Union
6. What was the military strategy of this country in the inter-war years(1919-1938)?

they believed is was necessary to destory Amerincan forces in the Pacific at Pearl Harbor and in the Phillipines

They then began moving to take Malaya, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Wake Island, Guam and many more

Then they intended to establish a defensive line in the Pacific
7. What role did they play in WWII?

Japan sided with the Axis Powers

They began by invading and seizing Manchuria in 1931 and withdrew from teh League of nations

They took the entire coast of China and the capital city

Japan also invaded French Indochina and took many Pacific islands

Their attack on Pearl Harbor made the US enter the war

After the Battle of Midway they slowly began losing their islands

On August 6 1945 the US dropped the first atomic bomb

Two days later the Soviet Union joined the war against them

The next day the second bomb was dropped and Hirohito surrendered 5 days later after surveying the damage
8. Who were their allies in WWII?

they sided with the Axis powers

Their allies were Germany, Italy, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, and Bulgaria
9. How did WWII impact/effect the country?

One of the biggest affects of the war was the casualties of the atomic bombs

Nearly alll of the buildings within a mile were destroyed and 90% fo the people within a half mile were killed
