given most of Germany's islands north of equator, gave seat in league of Nations
2. What type(s) of government did this country have in the interwar years(1919-1938)?
constitutional monarchy--emperor and prime minister under constitution, Komintern--communist party
3. How did their leader, that led them throughout WWII, come to power?
Hirohito/Showa--grandfather died father became emperor, assumed throne when father died; prime minister apointed by him, Hideki Tojo, strong miliary ties
4. How did this leader change their country(for the better and worse) prior to WWII?
changed focus from not going to war to going to war
5. What were the goals of the leader?
wanted easy supply of resources from China, cripple US, conquer Chinese lands, Manchuria to be buffer against SU
6. What was the military strategy of this country in the inter-war years(1919-1938)?
destroy American forces in the Pacific, intended to establish defensive line in Pacific

sided with axis powers, took entire coast of China and the capital city, invaded many pacific islands, attack on Pearl Harbor made US enter war, bagan losing islands after the Battle of the Midway, US dropped atomic bombs, surrendered after seeing damage

axis powers
9. How did WWII impact/effect the country?
casualities of the atomic bombs, buildings destroyed by atomic bombs
