Today in class we had a blog discussion. We still had people to talk about the Great Depression, so we still had to cover that. *Reminder that we have a Writing to Learn Quiz tomorrow*Things I learned today:*Pooling is when a group of investors out money together to buy a stock and bump the prices up and people start getting interested in it and they get a whole bunch of money out of it.*The Federal Reserve realized that the stock market was starting to go bad so they raised interest rates so they would stop borrowing money and that also hurt the economy.*The Thursday pryor to the crash the stocks sky rocketed and the system couldn't keep up with all the stock. That *Friday the stock rebounded.*That Tuesday is when the stock market crash occurred.The rich guys offerred a lot of credit for people to buy stock. They also started investing millions and millions of dollars to bring it back up.*Jesse Livermore made more money than anyone on this day.*Jesse Livermore shot himself. He just lost his lust for life.*Higher Tariff Policy- increased the tariff on American goods.*We made countries pay us back from WWI. They couldn't make money because of the high teriffs.* The drought caused the farmers to sell their farms so they could pay off taxes.*Companies were closing down because people were in debt.*People were no longer buying things from companies because they were so far in debt.*The Stock Market Crash was a cause of the Great Depression. (People think that this is the biggest cause)*Wealth was unequally distrubuted throughout the population.*The U.S. industry was needed for an update.*The industry and agriculture was overproduced.*Companies weren't making enough money.The Effects were:*Unemployment*Hunger*Poverty*Homelessness*Farm and Industry failures*Democrats win victory in 1932**We got assigned our project topics. Mine is the FDIC and Deficit spending.I don't really have any questions for today. I think that it would be pretty ineresting to experience the Great Depression and the Stock Market Crash.
