Today in class, this is what talked about (blog discussions)

Kyle --Marcus Darvy- created Universon Apporvment Negro Association and African Communities LEague. focused on racial pride during the 1920's. you should be proud to be black, as well as white. He was on the first to actually stand up.

Austin- Bloody Sunday- March 7, 1965- Peaceful group marched only marched about 6 blocks until the police attcked them. cameras and camcorders got it all on tape and a lot of pictures for evidence. Mrtin Luthar King planned another march and taht was successful.

Dasja--Thurgood Marshall- he was born in Baltimoore in 1908. at young age father taught him the laws and how to obey the constitution. right before graduation married wife Vivian.she died of cancer in 35. He was denuied the right to go to Marilyn Law school, then was accepted later that year to howard law school in 33. His first major case was suing Marylyn law school for not accepting an african american student because of his skin color. While he served, he also had helped make the constitution for Canzaneah to hlep bring out rights of whites and blacks.. He was appointed US head of Appeals. First black Supreme Court Justice.

Austin E-- Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters-for the blacks working as porters for George Coleman Company. A lot of ppl did not want to join it right away becauseColeman was a good man for giving blacks jobs. Well he only allowed them to make money off of their tips.. they have to pay to stay on the train really, because if a towel or some item was stolen, it was taken out of the african americans paycheck.. eventually, more started joining.. it was the first major african american movement.. they were basically

Tuskegee Airman- World War 2. first aftrican american group who flew in the military.. It was stills egregated, and were subjected into a lot of racial comments outside of woar.. they mainly flew bomber missions to Europe. At the end of this war, it was desegragated..

Malcom X-- born in Omaha Nebraska. was a very outspoken black rights speaker. before 13, both parents were gone. dad shot and mother in drug rehab. Malcom stayed on good path for most of his time. He was a preacher at a church, attepted to be lawyer, then turned to small crime. Was in jail for 8 years, then was face of nation of Islam. practiced islamic relieghino. found out head of Muhammad was going against his own teachings, and left them, starting his own group.. He had started talking about his own beliefs, similiar to Islamic beleifs. He was later assassinated by nation of Islam.

Lynching- most popular in south. south was all for slavery. They would just hang blacks beause they were either upset with htem or simply just felt like doing it. 5000 african ameriacns were lycned durign the 1860s.. when the war took off, the south was very upset so lyching really took off.. while this was happening. everyone watched and nobody really did anything abnout it at all.. The blacks were powerless. they had the police, people, governor, and everyone against them.. it wasnt until the federal government went in and actually forced this to stop. Eventually there was anti lynching bills passed. The south caused t5rouble becuae the south would not vote on the New Deal program., causing FDR to not do much for AFrican Americans.\ beacuse he feared that they would not vote, causing the New Deal to be unsuccessful.

Booker T. Washington- born a slave on small tobacco plantation(small enough to ba farm) never knew father but mother was slave in the house.. step father though?? went to school. moved in with his steph father and went t poschool there. had to work at 4 am in salt move so he could pay for his schooling.. was taken up by a wealthy townswoman who had really enoucougaged him to continue with his education.. walked 500 miles to go to new private school.,.. later opened up his own Institute in Alabama..

Stokely Standford ? Carmichael--trinidatian black.. during the 60's. one of the first leaders of the Student Novelist Coordination Commitee.. later became honorary prime minister of black panther committee.. associated with black nationalist movements//. more violent..
