Today is Monday the 8th of February. this month is already sliding by like a bobled on a luge track. We took a break today from the presentations and did our blog discussion day. I talked about Booker Taliafero Washington. Booker T, as he is reffered as, was one of the Nation's top educators amond blacks and whites alike. He lived in the days when discrimination was still running ramant, but he perservered and became a civil rights activist. He was very conservative and was much like the Martin Luther King of his day.
Cody talked about his blog too. Cody researched a terrible blotch on Omaha's history. In the early 1900's, a black man was accused of raping a white woman. A mob of more than 5,000 angry whites protested outside the courthouse where the black man's hearing was taking place. The mob wanted to lynch the man (hang him), but the police barred the mob from the courthouse.
The mob eventually got in, destroyed most of the building, set it on fire, and catured several public officials. I think it was the mayor who they got. They geat him, hung him, shot his dead body, burned the body and paraded it around town for hours before federal or state troops arrived and broke up the mob.
I can't believe living in a time when hanging was legal when it was done on blacks. I just don't understand why people felt that they had to hate other races so much. We are all people. Period. Although i don't like the people who act gangster and want to harm society to try and look tough.
