Today is blog discussion day.Marcus Garvy tried to lift the spirits of the Blacks so they could gain economic independence and push segregation down.Bloody Sunday was March 7, a black movement march was attacked by police were beaten severely even though they were peaceful marchers.Thurgood Marshal was born in Baltimore. He sued a law school so that he was able to enroll there. He also worked for equal rights for whites in Tanzania. He was the first black Supreme Court justice.Tuskegee Airman was the first African American aviation group in the air force. They flew bombing missions during WW2.Malcolm X was born in Omaha and was a black spokesman. He moved to Islam but moved back and they sent assassins to kill him. Malcolm X demonstrated more through violence than MLK. He was named Malcolm Little but he changed it to X because he wanted to cast off his slave name.Lynching was a practice in the South where they just hanged African Americans for no reason. Once slavery was abolished it happened a lot more. People would sit and watch lynching without doing anything.During Pearl Harbor there was a Black that was a cook or steward that jumped on a machine gun and started shooting people.Ella Fitzgerald was a big jazz singer.Booker T. Washington was a slave. He went to school when he was freed and lived with his step-dad. He worked in a salt mine every morning before school. He went back home to go to the Hampton Institute. He became a black rights activist who was very peaceful.Stockley Carmicheal was from Trinidad and was an activist. He was a violent leader and were known for the raised fist for the Black Power. It started in high school.
