Tennessee Valley Authority:

The land had been stripped away of most of it forests also was over farmed

FDR picked people who looked into the future to help the land not only now but later

Came up with new fertilizers

helped the farmers produce better crop yield without decimating the land

Built dams

improved teh lives of the residents adn farmers

brought many new jobs into the area

TVA built 12 new hydroelectric plants and a steam plant and the employment was at least 28,000

It is still around today and is the most reliabile power plant in the country

Francis Townsend:

Moved to California and worked as a medical assistant until forced into early retirement due to the great depression

Proposed a plan in which the Federal gov. would provide every person over 60 wiht a monthly pension of $2oo

His plan was called the old age revolving pensipon plan

Received much needed public support

Roosevelt passed the Social Security Act and townsend did not like it bc it did not beneifet the old as much

Homeowners LoanCoperation:

prevent forclosure on homes

gave people longer loans up to 20 to 25 years

Fashion of the 1930s:

Men wore suits and hats

Women wore dresses that were mid calf lenght

Hats were popular of both sexes
