Blog Discussion Day

Jackie robinson was the first black guy to play in the MLB..he was born in 1919...he had such accomplishments as being the first person to letter in four varsity sports at UCLA...he lettered in baseball, basketball, football, and track. jackie also got rookie of the year in the MLB in 1947, and mvp in 1949...jackie started out playing in the negro leagues but was eventually bumped up to the MLB. Jackie was very influential in civil rights for black people..he inspired a lot of blacks to go out and accomplish their goals..

the Watts Riots started in Los Angeles in 1965..a black man got pulled over by a white cop and just asked the cop if his bro could drive home but they impounded the car...because they were in an all black community the blacks started to riot and everything just got out of control..at the conclusion of all the riots there were 3,000 people arrested..800 were wounded..and 32 were dead..

Harriet Tubman helped slaves escape to the north thru the underground railroad..

Collin Powell was the first black in the secretary of state..

NWACP- group for black civil rights..

Rosa Parks was a black women that got arrested for sitting in the front section of the bus known as the white section of the bus..
