Today we finished up with last week's blog discussions.

*Describe reaons why people moved westward in the early parts of our history: Most people lived in the eastern states but some wanted to find adventure and escape the overcrowded states. Moving west allowed them to have their own land and farm. Another big reason was because of the gold rush in California. A lot of people moved there to try to get rich off of panning rivers.

*Describe the advangtages of the north and south during the civil war: The north was more industrialized and had more people. They also had railroads that could transport supplies and troops faster. The south had a bigger advantage in the war because it was fought in their territory and they also had better generals leading them and connections with foreign countries. The south also had a better reason for fighting because the south would lose their slaves and their way of life if they didn't win.

*Give positive and negative effects Reconstruction had on the United States: After the civil war, the south had to be rebuilt, economically, socially, and physically. The U.S. didn't know what to do with the newly freed African Americans because they had no education. The Freedman's Bureau taught African Americans to read and write and get their degrees so that they could be like everyone else. The State governments rewrote their constitutions to get rid of things about slavery in them. With this came the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendments which made African Americans U.S. citizens and the Fifteenth Amendment which gave minority males the right to vote.
