Italy's military was viewed as weak. This was due from poor equpiment, ineffective political leadership, rather than because of its troops. They had a navy but no aircraft. Their equipment was outdated. Their Soldiers had little idea was they were actually fighting for. After the Allied occupation of Southern Italy, the King ordered Mussolini to be arrested in order to sign the armistice. Mussolini was captured and executed on April 28, 1945, as well as his mistress Claretta Petacci, by Mmi.
