Today we went over the Europe map. We will have the test this Thursday and Friday. The Makayla Hammel gave her presentation about endangered species:

  • Coral reefs make up just 0.2% of the total area of the ocean
  • 11% has already been damaged
  • 60% are threatened by human activity
  • The Great Barrier Reef is the worlds largest reef and extends more than 2000 km
  • About 98% of the reef is nationally protected
  • The reef is at risk from increasing water temperature as a result of global warming
  • Reefs play an important role in preventing damage from storms and they give food and shelter to many different species of fish
  • Ocean water has warmed up since the 19th century
  • Rising temperatures cause reefs to bleach and eventually die

Next we finished our blog discussions from last week.
