--Midway-Yamamoto wanted to bring in Pacific fleet, US broke Japanese code and knew it was coming, Japan unsuccessful, considered turning point of Pacific War

--Coral Sea-battle between aircraft carriers, Allies in Solomon Islands, attacked small fleet, US moved towards Japanese, Japanese tries to move around behind US, almost same losses, minor turning point as first time Japanese lost major offensive battle

--Saipan-they lost navy and 3 aircraft carriers, Japanese told to fight til the last man, last bonzai (suicide) charge, most costly battle: 3000 killed, 10000 wounded

--Guadalcanal-near supply lines, key airfield, first island taken that was part of Japan itself

--Iwo Jima-airfields, US marines charged with taking islands, historic flag-raising, had to slowly push Japanese out of tunnels, Japanese launched final kamikaze attack, island officaillly over the next day, most costly battle for marine corps

--Okinawa-key to communication lines, bombing nearly destroyed capital city but did little good, Japanese entrenched in mountains, sent biggest war ship but US destroyed, last major naval attack

--Aomic bombs-Hiroshimma, Nagasaki, destroyed nearly all biulding within a mile, 90% of people killed within a half mile, radiation sickness killed even more until it started to slow 8 weeks later

Italian-Mediteranean Front

--Siege of Malta-military campaign, continually fought over, vital supplies, unsinkable aircraft carrier, most intensively bombed piece of land

--Somalia-taken by Italy, only battle not aided by Germany,
