Today Mr. Bruns told us about our blog assignment. We will have to read/skim the first 16 pages of the document attached to the forum post and blog about it. Matt and Isaac continued with their powerpoint. The Kyoto protocol was a document the UN wanted the countries to sign to cut down on co2 and such. The IPCC report, a report the UN does every four years, stated in 2007 that earths climate is going up mostly because of humans. To cut down on global warming use fluorescent light bulbs, drive hybrid cars, use alternative types of energy such as wind, solar, and water. The government is setting policies to help reduce emissions and developing low carbon technologies.Theyre also improving observation systems so we can better understand what the possible impacts of global climate change. They made a Clean Air Act that sets in different laws to help decrease air pollution, they have established the US global change research program which provides the government with the world's most extensive research effort on climate change, and they are currently considering a tax on carbon-based fuels. That way you will pay more for gasoline, electricity, heating oil and natural gas. Cheryl's topic is pollution, Dani's is alternative energy and Brittany's is fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are formed by natural resources, such as decomposition of buried dead organisms. The three major types are coal, oil and natural gas. They take millions of year to make and are non-renewable. 85% of the ener used by the United States are fossil fuels. They're inexpensive, able to make very late amounts of electricity, and are widely and easily distributed all over the world. They release carbon dioxide into the air causing air pollution, contribue very heavily to gloal warming and pollutes water. Some of the money we give the middle east for oil helps fund programs for twrrorists, like schools! Pollution is the releasing of harmful toxins into the environment that causes damage to the ecosystem and all of the things in it. Some types of pollution are air pollution and water pollution. Los Agneles and Pittsburg are the most polluted cities in the Unties States. We can stop pollution by not littering, reusing anything possible, not smoking, using non-toxic cleaning items, and more! Air pollution is the releasing of dangerous particles into the air from burning fuel into energy. You can limit the burning of harmful things into the air to help. Water pollution happens when water is affected because of the releasing of materials into it. To help you can not dump wastes into the oceans and keep fertilizer from fields from running off. Alternative energy is energy sources that reduce pollution.
PS - sorry if my typing is a little poor-looking today. I burnt my hand in science 7th hour!
