---Today in class we divided up the blog topics. I have the 1948 election along with Stess and then Mr. Bruns continued testing people.
---Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and Malaya to start the war. Pearl Harbor made the United States enter the war and during their attack on Malaya they defeated Thailand and forged an alliance with them. Japan also attacked Hong Kong and the Phillipines on Dec 8. Two of Britain’s major warships, the HMS Repulse and HMS Prince of Wales, were sunk when they were attacked at Malaya. Japanese swarmed Malaya using Thailand as a base and overtook Malaya in less than 24 hours.
---Hong Kong was attacked on Dec 8 and fell on the 25. January 1st the United Nations appointed British General Sir Archibald Wavell to the ABDA Command. This was a force that was spread from Burma to the Philippines and Australia.
---Japanese invaded Burma, the Dutch East Indies, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands in January 1942. Allied forces tried to fend off the Japanese at Singapore but were forced to surrender on the 15th and Japan took 130,000 Allied POW’s. Half the area controlled by ABDA was taken.
