Today in U.S. History Mr. Bruns finished talking about the eighth grade review topics. The two topics that were left were the Civil War and the Reconstruction,Civil War- Between North and South. Fought mainly over slavery, because the North thought it was wrong and the South needed the slaves on their large plantations. They seceded when Lincoln was elected president because the South thought that he was going to abolish all slavery in the U.S. The Union had almost all of the advantages during the Civil War. The South did well at first because they had far better generals, but the North had more stuff so they ended up eventually winning. Slavery was the big issue that led to the war. (1861-1865)Reconstruction- (1865-1877) Period of time when the South had to be rebuilt physically, socially, politically, and economically. The Friedmans bureau was set up- educate and job train African American's. Northern Republicans went down and took over the South's government. Republicans were allowed to have presidency from Democrats, if they were to end Reconstruction. When the North leaves the same people went back into power in the South. 13th, 14th, 15th Amendements were passed during Reconstruction. Should have lasted decades not for only 12 years.
