Today we are not doing blog discussion, but instead we are going over Mr. Bruns's powerpoint to get ready for the test. Hitler became allies with Italy in the Rome-Berlin Axis in the 1930's getting ready for war. The Panay Incident was when the Japanese attacked a U.S. boat. It started the two countries down a road that led to Pearl Harbor.
Anschluss with Austria was when Germany annexed Austria. Austria had asked to come a part of Germany after World War 1. People didn't really care because the people of Austria were German. The Sudetenland was an area that had a lot of German speaking people in it. Hitler wanted to reunite the people with Germany. He also wanted to get it back because it was lost from the Treaty of Versailles. The Munich Conference was held and it let Hitler take the Sudentenland as long as he would not take over any other areas. The Sudentenland was part of Czeckoslovakia. Of course Hitler says that he will do this. The Policy of Appeasement came after this. The people made Hitler happy for a short time to prevent war. Winston Churchill thought that they should not have let Hitler get this land. He thought if he didn't get this land he would back down. The Night of the Broken Glass was when Hitler sent people out to destroy the Jews will. The people would break glass on Jewish churches. The Soviet-German non-aggression Pact was when the Soviet Union and Hitler agreed not to fight each other. They also agreed to invade Poland from both sides. They would also trade with each other. The Soviet Union would trade raw materials to Germany in exchange for money and weapons.
In Blitzkrieg there would be air and tank attacks. Then behind the tanks there would be infantry that would eventually encircle or capture the enemy. There would also be mechanized groups in trucks that would get behind the enemy so they were completly encircled. The goal of this type of warfare was to achieve victory as quickly as possible. Winston Churhill became Prime Minister after the Munich Conference backfired. The Maginot Line did not go all the way to the see, so Germany attacked France by going through Belgium.
