Causes of stock market crash

  1. Stock prices were grossly inflated, did not have real value-watered stock prices
  2. Over speculation during the 1920s- led to watered stock
  3. Buying on margin- led to people being in debt and watered stock prices

Overproduction of goods- Uneven distribution of wealth

Too much borrowing from banks

Federal Reserve increased interest rates

Lack of government regulation

Ag slump in 1920's due to overproduction

High productive tariff policies of the 1920's

taxes benefiting the rich-rich got richer, poor got poorer

Companies lose money so they lay people off

Unemployment rate went up and less people buy goods as income has dropped

Companies profits fall so thy have to lay more people off or close

Cycle repeats itself

Soup kitchens

Kids would drop out- leave parents because they felt worthless and they would hop on trains and go town to town and find jobs- very dangerous because of kidnapping and other dangers.

People would move to the west like California for more job oppurtunities
