Germany was surrounded by Allied powers so they fought a "double sided" war (they had to spilt their military in half.Europe went to war all the time with each other so WWI wasn't much different except that it became a World War.US, and Europe took almost all of Africa and some parts of Asia.Underlying CausesMilitarism- Building up your military.Imperialism- Expanding countries. It became a world war because when war broke out all of their colonies in other places were involved.Nationalism- Pride in your country. Aldolf Hitler is an extreme example and how it's bad.Alliances- Having more countries on your side. Side with more allies usually win.What actually sparked the war- Assassination of Arch Duke Franz Ferdanan. Killer- Gavrilo Princip. All the killers were going to take posion after they shot but it wasn't strong enough so he spent the rest of his life in prision.Chain of Events- Assassination, Austria Hungry declares war on Serbia, Allies come in to help and everybody's in after a while.The Von Schlieffen plan was for Germany to take Paris over quick so that they didn't have to fight a two sided war They went up through nutreal belgim because they wouldn't reall expect it.-Breann Lehr
