Today I continued my research on Muckrakers. Today I specifically focused on early Muckrakers and also example of Muckrakers from after the Progressive Era. Today I learned that some of the first Muckrakings was called Yellow Journalism. Yellow Journalism was a type of news that usually included scandal-mongering, sensationalism, jingoism or other unethical or unprofessional practices. Another thing I learned is how the term Yellow Journalism was created; the New York Press came up with the term "Yellow Journalism" in early 1897. They created the term to describe the wars over circulation between Pulitzer and Hearst. I also learned that both papers were accused of putting scandals into the news in order to have more people read their paper. Another thing I learned was that Joseph Pulitzer's newspaper was called the New York World and William Randolph Hearst's newspaper was called the New York Journal. That is what I learned about Early Muckraking.Next I looked up Muckraking after the Progressive Era. I learned that Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein were two current day Muckrakers. They were the two of the first journalists that reported the Watergate Scandal. The two of them reporting the Watergate Scandal led to a lot of government investigations and also led to President Nixon to resign. Gene Roberts said that the work of Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein was, "maybe the single greatest reporting effort of all time." Other people that I learned are present Muckraker are Michael Moore, Ralph Nader, and Geraldo RIvera. I also learned taht shows that go undercover to expose the truth such as Dateline NBC could be considered modern day Muckrakers.
