• Korean conflict- forgotten war
• • origins
    • korea was invaded and ruled by japan from 1910-45
    • after wwii korea was split in 2 (north korea and south korea)
    • an election was going to be held to unify korea
    • soviet union refused to allow participation in the election of the occupied zone
    • instead they handed over power ti the north korean communist party
    • south elected nationalist exile....
    • we with drew troops from south korea
      • north korea attacks and gets most of south (help of soviets and china)
      • mac arthur and UN take back area south korea had
      • china helps north and everything ends up back to normal half and half
  • UN Police Action
    • UN security council voted to send troops to help south korea
    • US, GB, france, china and soviets were permanent members that could veto the "police action"
    • Why didn't the ussr and/or china veto this proposal?
