First we spent the first 10 minuites studying the Asia Africa Map test. Then we watched the Tomas Freedman video.

1. Describe what the “flat world” means before watching the lecture?
It means the world is becoming flat.
2. Briefly describe Globalization 1.0.
The world becoming smaller. Fast planes, fast boats, internet, is making information more availible

1492- early 1800's/ countries globalized

3. Briefly describe Globalization 2.0.
1800's to 2000/ companies are moving overseas
medium to small

4. Briefly describe Globalization 3.0.
2000-present/ smaller busnesses becoming larger because of internet

small to tiny

5. What was the Berlin Wall a flattener?

It fell down and allowed us to see the world as a flat place. It was seen as one none seperated world.


6. What was the importance of Netscape going public on 8-9-95?
It was the browser that brought the internet alive.

Nobody or no company would own the internet.
It triggered the .com boom, and overinvestment in fiber optic cable.

7. What is outsourcing/offshoring and why are many Americans opposed to it?

A new form of colaberation.
(when a company would move becuase the place they are moving is cheaper.)

8. Give two examples of “open-sourcing”.

Different browsers that would be better and maybe free. Since its free people wont pay for things such as text books when they can just look on the internet.

9. What does Friedman mean by “informing”?
Being able to figure things out on your own, and being a problem solver.

10. What are the “steroids” according to Friedman?
Wireless, vioce over the internet, and file sharing. Being in the loop the whole time.

11. According to Friedman, how do people need to change in the future to succeed in a “flat world”?
They need to HORIZONTALIZE themselfs.

12. Why should young people be concerned with the “flat world”?




13. Define what Friedman means by the “flat world” now that you watched the video.

A global web enabled platform for multiple forms of sharing knowledge. So the world is interconnected.
