the beginning of the war.

the iron curtain speech was basically saying that there was two europes. a communist side and a democratic side

Marshall Plan

European Recovery Program

created a stronger economic foundation

the truman administration wanted to help

George Marshall addressed this at Harvarad

it was more of a proposal to Europe

The Plan

the US gave western europe 13 billion dollars

Many of the major cities in Europe wer destroyed

it took Germany until 1971 to pay back

it was made to make sure that communism wouldn't start there.

the "long Telegram" was how the Soviets would respond

US set up long term strategy

it then created NATO

some countries feared about the doctrine

it was aimed tward Turkey and Greese

it was military aid to help Greese and Turkey from becoming communist

with the concern, Truman passed the bill

The Cuban Missle Crisis

Confrontation between the Soviet Union, Cuba and the US in October 1962

cuban and soviet governments were building bases for nuclear missiles.

said to be the point in which the Cold War Came closest to turning into a nuclear conflict

it started along with the help of the US government armed forces the CIA with a trained force of Cuban exiles attempted to attaack southern cuba and overthrow the Cuban government of Fidel Castro. (bay of pigs invasion)

Around August 1962 is when the SU started to suspect the Soviets of building missle bases in Cuba

The idea of placing nuclear missles in Cuba came from Nikita Khrushchev.

wanted to counter the lead of the US in developing and deployign strategic missles.

Also wanted to protect cuba from more US sponsored invasions

photographic proof of missile bases under contruction were caught by a US U-2 photooreconnaissance on October 14th

US considered attacking Cuba but instead settled on a military quarantine of Cuba.

on October 23, 1962 president Kennedy signed proclamation 3504
