Airports were closed. The Patriot Act (Here to protect you from your freedoms). Because of 9/11, CIA was given more power. Bush Doctrine- Protect the US by going into another country before they attack us. Bush "You're either with us, or against us"
Persian Gulf War- Invasion of Kuwait. Countries asked for help, and the UN helped. Modern weaponry was used. Air attacks. It was a cease fire. Many casualties. Leader of Iraq- Saddam Hussein. US- George H.W. Bush.
Bill Clinton- 42nd president. Saw as a good president. US has the lowest unemployment rate while he was president. Clinton made the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy. 2nd president to be impeached.
May 6- George W Bush was president when 9/11 hit. Al-Qaeda (means "the base") It was a stateless (without a country) terrorist organization. Al-Qaeda (terrorist organization) and Taliban (Government of Afghanistan. Allowed Al-Qaeda to train in their country). Got their start fighting the SU.
May 7- Reasons Muslims attacked us: The Presence of US troops in Saudi Arabia due to Iraq invading Kuwait. US supported Israel. Why did people want to Attack America? According to Bin Laden, he has never said that the attacks were, are, or will be because of American freedoms, the rights of our citizens, or even because of our religious differences. He has said that the reasons for the attacks of the past as well as those of the future will be because of the way the US and its allies treat the Muslim World. The Taliban did not plan the 9/11 attacks, but they let Bin Laden operate in Afghanistan and refused to turn him over to the US. Khalid Shaikh Mohammed planned the 9/11 attack. He was a college student in the US. Bush Doctrine- US had the right to secure itself against countries that harbor or give aid to terrorist groups. Operation Enduring Freedom- 1. Capture Osama bin Laden. 2. Destroy Al-Qaeda network. 3. Remove Taliban Regime.
May 8- Afghanistan was fought as a result of 9/11. Main reason we go to war is because we believe Saddam Hussein was getting weapons of mass destruction. President Bush's Policies. Started war in 2003. War was supported at first but no WMD found led to war becoming very unpopular. Abu Ghraib prison pictures. Accused of not having an exit strategy. Obama Policies. Opposed to war at the outset as a Senator. After being elected President, Obama switched the focus to the war in Afghanistan. Pulled out all US combat troops in August 2010. After we left, ISIS, formerly al-Qaeda in Iraq, moved in and has taken over much of Northern Iraq and Syria.
