berlin wall comes down in november 9,1989--first elected president-boris yeltsin-president of russia-1991-1999- why did us win the cold war-- we had close ties with our allies and the usst didnt,,,china started sliding with the us after 1972- the soviet economy was in shambles whereas the us was flourishing 1-hude deficit 2-high inflation 3- corruption 4- social problems 5- shortage of basic needs(food, housing)----- soviet mistakes-invasion of afghanista, ignoring social concerns, and spent everything on military,---post cold war- in the 1990s the world seemed to be a much more peaceful place! 9/11-september 11, 2001 new york city- in early morning hours september 11, 2001 four commercial airliners were highjacked --8:46 americans airliners flight 11 was the first to crash into the north tower of the world trade center aproximitly seventeen minutes later a nother plane crashed--the second one was the one that was caught live-arlington, virgina-d.c. 9:37 am american airlines flight 77 crashed into the pentagon-- shanskville, pennsylvania- the fourth plane, untied airlines flight 93 was the expected to head toward the captial building in washington d.c. it took months to complete the rescue efforts --more than 6,000 people injured and 2,996 died-

civil rights - the nationnal effortt made by african american people to inlinimnate segregtion to gain equal rights-100 years after the the ecanicipation proclamation-segregation in school and bussinees and were not allowed to vote!,,martin luther king jr.born 1929 in januraury died in 1968 assininated by earl, accomplishments- co-found the southern christian leadership conference,, organized the the boycutt, rosa parkss born 1913 and died 2005 african american that refused to give up her seat and the white section ws full and the driver told her sshe had to mo ve but she refused test of the bus boycutt was meant to happen ! malcom X born 1925 died 1965 assinated by hagen american muslim minister and human rights activist- bayard ruston born 1912 died 1987 and helped co found southern chirstian leadership conference with marten luther king jr.-major events- selma to motgomery marches- african american in the south would march from selma to montgomery to protest voting and the tried it 3 times the first two were met by white police force the very first time was known as bloody sundae--march on washington- in 1963 in washington dc 200,00 people gathered to hear martin luther king jr and this is where he gave the i habve a dream speech all types of people came to see it -- montgom ery bus boycutt it started with rosa parks for refuseing the seat on a bus it lasted 381 days they wouldnt ride the buses they would walk to their work and they won becaause the blacks were big part of the buses got their money from them mostly--central high school first itergrated school in the south nine african students national gaurd block entrance to school from the mayor and the president took in 1200 troops to help escort them from class to class!!!--important laws and acts that were passed in brown v. the board of educationb ended legal segregation of school the 2 time made states desegragate schools- bailey v. patterson banned segragaion of publuc transportation unamious decision were made often for these things-civil rights act prohibited descrimination in many ways voting. public facilities, public education, and eployment. established eeoc- voting right prohinited the denial or restriction of voting--loving v. virginia legal interracial marriage unamious decision again
