The Vietnam Conflict 1950- 1975
- Used to be known as Indochina
- France had control until WWII when Japan took over
- Wanted Vietnam back after so France and Vietnam started fighting
- France lost in 1954
- Goals: Stop communism
- Vietnam: Wanted independence
- Split in 2
- Vietnam was eventually united as communist
- Geneva Conference
- Vietnam would be split
- We slowly got involved with Vietnam
- Started sending military advisors- did not participate in fighting
- Send special forces (Green Berets)- small amounts of people
- Sent regular troops were sent for defensive purposes only
- Finally, in 1964, regular troops were used for offensive combat
