BERLIN BLOCKADE AND AIRLIFT

Stalin wanted to cut off access to Berlin and Takeover the city. No Roads or rail roads could be used to enter or leave berlin 2.5 million people were at risk becasue they weren't getting the supplies that they needed

Failed for USSR, But the West turned it into a great victory

US saw blockade as a test of commmitment

THe blockade evetually led to the airlift

AIRLIFT

it is transporting stuff with airplanes

Began in June, 1948 until Sept., 1949

Supply of necessities to west berlin by Air

Transported 1,534 tons were needed daily to keep over 2.5 million people alive in Berlin

gas..oil.. coal.. medicine.. clothes were also transported

over 277,000 flights were made

USSR could shoot them down.. start a war- son't do anything.. chose this

May 1949, Russians realized the Berlin blockade had onot worked as planned, and lifted the restrictions

split into two separate countries. the west became the federal republic and the east became the domocratic republic

CHINESE CIVIL WAR

the war began in April 1927

it was fought between KMT and CCP

both sides fought ot transform China

in 1934, Mao and the communist force was surrounded and it resulted the "Long March"

Many retreated to regroup and attack again

Mao regrouped in Jiangxi and marched North to runite

1936 the "long March" ended and they wer known as the "union of three armies"

communists party fell from 300,000- 40,000 members
