1. Understand the causes of the stock market crash and Great Depression.
Companies were making too many goods and couldn’t sell all of them. Stock of certain companies were to high and people couldn’t afford them so they took out loans to buy into the company. People were buying on margin and over speculating. The stock market crash lead to the Great Depression because people were losing money, taking their money out of banks, causing the banks to close down. High tariff on imported goods, trades were beginning to get cut off, other countries were in depression as well so we couldn’t get help
2. Understand the impact the stock market crash and Great Depression had on the country and world as well as on the lives of people in the United States.
Lead to worldwide Depression (Farmers burned crops and spilled milk so prices would go up, suicide, teenagers dropped out of HS)
In the US many farmers were burning crops and killing animals to make the prices go up. Also many teenagers dropped out of school to go work and make money for their families. Many men jumped out of windows when the stock market crashed, because they had lost all of their money. Many people moved to Hoovervilles because they had lost their houses, jobs, and their dignity. Throughout the world many other counties experienced what we did and were doing anything to get out of the Depression.

3. Understand what the United States government did to help alleviate the problems the Great Depression brought to our country.
In 1932, FDR launched The New Deal stating he would take them out of the Great Depression by ways of Relief,Reform,Recovery:
Bank Holiday March 5th- Shut down all the banks so people wouldn’t be able to run and take out more money
Established FDIC- Insured account holders up to $5,000
Focused on groups that helped; farmers, banks, unemployed
WPA, PWA, CCC, AAA, FLSA, FSA, NYA, FHA
AAA-raised crop prices by lowering production
TVA-direct leave to hard hit areas that were flooded
CCC-put young men to work; 18-25 building railroads, parks, and planting trees
PWA-provided money to states to build schools and community buildings
FHA-provided homes and loans to people
4. Understand the causes, effects and major events of WWII.
Pearl Harbor- Japan dropping bombs on Hawaii to try to knock the US out of the War and start trading with them again
D-Day- Allied invasion of France; 5 beaches-Omaha, Utah, Black, Gold, Juno which lead to us getting into Europe and winning the war
Atomic bomb droppings- Hiroshima and Nagasaki was where the two bombs were dropped, it caused japan to surrender

Back and Forth War, Signed a ceasefire, but still at war today, our major goal to stop communism, Macarthur being fired

North invading the South, Gulf of Tonkin, Escalation, more and more troops, Tet offensive, Vietnamization, Pulling out because it was UNPOPULAR, soldiers seemed as babykiller, government lying to citizens.
