Continued Nick's Cuban Missile Crisis

October 14th, U-2 from the US took pictures of missile bases being built and missiles being transported in Cuba

US was going to attack Cuba but decided on a military quarantine of Cuba

If we attacked them they would react and we didn't want a war with them

Soviets disagrees with the demands, but secretly resolved the United Nations Secretary General Thant agreed with the Soviets that they would remove their missiles back to Soviet Union

Fidel Castro and the Bay of Pigs Invasion

Fidel went to law school at Uniersity of Havan in late1945

Full name-Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz

Fidel was interested in political culture at the University

Joined the anti american trip to Bogota, Columbia

Trip was paid by Juan Peron-Argentina's army colonial and president

After marriage in 1948 he began to have money problems

Fidel didn't want to find a job and people outside the family had to pay his bills

Marriage was being strained because he was involved with the revolution and political projects

1950, Fidel graduated with Doctor of Laws degree and began small parnership in Havana, but it didn'tlast long

Cuban Revolution started with an attack from General Fulgencio in Santiago, Cuba

Known as Moncada Barracks because Batista focused his attack there

After being captured during a skirmish Fidel wasn't executed

Fidel wanted to overthrow Batista and the other exciles because of the Moncada Barracks that was known as the 26th of July Movement

He needed new tactics to overthrow Batista

Planned underground guerilla tactics

Operation Verano, launched by Batista to get rid of Fidel and other anti-government groups

Fidel won the Battle of La Plata

January 8, 1959, Fidel's army went to Havana University

Weapons that were used in the revolt was from the US

20 out of 82 revolting people survived and retreated to Sierra Maestra Mountains

Fidel survived his execution after this

Fidel became leader of Cuba in January and people supported him

Fidel became Prime Minister of Cuba in February 16, 1959

His slogan-"Revolution no, election later"

Fidel's law professor, Jose Miro Cardona, went in exile to the US and became part of the Bay of Pigs Invasion later on
