Current Events:  

- A place in Italy just got over 100.8  inches of snow in under an day.  18 hours. 

- New pictures of Osama Bin Laden released. 

- Ferguson-2 officer shot after police chief resigns.  Do not know who the shooter is. As the time has went on there has been more percentage of African Americans than whites.  

- Report: Drunk Secret Service agents crash into White House barrier. 2 seniors of the higher crashed into the house. 

- Iran- U.S and Iran making a deal: U.S. goal to eliminate Iran's ability to make a nuclear weapon. Iran Goals- Relief from economic sanctions.  Maintain a peaceful nuclear energy program. Would have to okay monitoring by the IAEA. 

- Obama, Iran slam GOP letter on nuclear negotiations. 

Other Notes: 

Basics of Iran's Nuclear Program.  Ayatollah Ali Khamenei- current supreme leader of Iran and a Shia Cleric. Been in power since about 89. Former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.  2005-2010, nuclear weapons issue started his term, "The Holocaust never happened", "Israel should be wiped of the face of map." Current President: Hassan Rouhani- 2013-presents, opposite party of Ahmadinejad .Wanted to restore the economy and improve bad relations with Western nations.  More moderate and brought a "resurgence of hope" for change.  Helped initiate the first high-level talks with the U.S. in decades.  Some progress in negotiations on Iran's controversial nuclear program.  His government has opened up the country to some Western reporters. But, he does not get final say.  Nuclear powers of the world. Countries- Original=U.S. Russia, China, U.K., France.  1970=North Korea, Israel, India, and Pakistan.  Developing=Iran.  They are a defensive weapon.  the IAEA confirmed these suspicious.  Iran consistently denied they they were developing nuclear weapons.  Iran said they were using nuclear technology for energy only.  The U.S and many countries do not believe them.  

Presentation Notes: 

5th amendment:  Grants fights to grand jury, protects against double jeopardy, protects against self-incrimination, and cannot be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law.  Ratified in 1791.  Created to protect the basic rights of the accused, our founding fathers objected to many of the what they were treated by the British in matters of crime and justice.  Still very important today. 

6th amendment: Right to a speedy public trial by jury, right to be notified of accusation, right to confront the accuser, and right to obtain witness and retain counsel. Ratified on December 15, 1791.  Founding Fathers wanted the accused protection from unfair methods of prosecutions and investigation. Still gives the accused today their protection rights. 

7th amendment:  You have the right to a trial cannot charge and hold you without giving you a trial.  King George the 3rd said no more trials and juries the colonists got mad so the Funding Fathers understood it was important to have. Ratified December 15, 1791

8th amendment: Fines mist be fair and not over excessive, and punishment must be fair not cruel. Wanted punishment to be fair, for people convicted of crime, the British punishment enraged people such as hanging people. Ratified December 15, 1791. 

9th amendment: Rights retained by people.  Examples- right where to live, abortion. Ratified-1791. 

10th amendment:  So the government does not have all the power and the people and states have the same power. Ratified on December 15, 1791, 

11th amendment:  A state cant not be sued by a sued from another state or their state and the case can not be heard by the federal government without the states say so. 

12th amendment: Election of the president and vice president by the electoral college.  Passed on December 19, 1804. 

13th amendment: Slavery is not legal in the United States unless it is a punishment for a crime/  Ratified January 31, 1865. 

14th amendment: Anyone born or living in the United States are citizens and must be treated equally under the law.   Passed on July 28, 1868. 

15th amendment: An amendment of the U.S. constitution, prohibiting the restriction of voting rights "on the account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude"  February 26, 1870.

14,15,16- Civil War amendments 

16th amendment: The government takes a portion of the money you make in any job that you do. Also known as income taxes.  February 3, 1913.

17th amendment: Each state can have two senators and they each can only have one vote.  April 8,1913.  Every state has equal votes and equal power.  

18th amendment: Established the prohibition of alcoholic beverages in the United States by declaring the illegal production, transport and sale of alcohol.  December 18, 1917. 

19th amendment: Prohibits any United States citizen from being denied the right to vote on the basis of sex.  August 18, 1920.

20th amendment:  Gives the ending dates of office for the President and VP. Tells who takes the presidents spot if he dies.  Ratified 1933.  When he/she is officially out of office

21st amendment:  The government outlawed the manufacture, sale, and transportation of alcoholic beverages.  Ratified Dec 5, 1933.  Repeals the 18th amendment. 

22nd amendment: The president cannot serve for more than two terms.  Ratified March 21, 1947.  Americans thought it was not good for a country.  Today we in the U.S. we do not let the president serve for more than two terms. 

23rd amendment: Ours
