Thursday (12th)-
- There were many pictures of Osama Bin Laden found that are now able to be seem by the public
- Went over stats of Ferguson since the recent stories in the news (looks like they target more African Americans than White people)
- 2 Police officers were shot after police chief resigned (neither was from Ferguson--shooter is unknown)
- 2 Secret Service men were drunk and crashed into the White House Barrier
Iran 101
- Current leader is Ayatollah Ali Khameini (came to power in '89) (ended Iran's nuclear program "sinful" act)
- Former President was Mohmoud Ahmadinejad (nuclear weapons issue stated during his term "Holocaust never happened" "Israel should be wiped of the face of the map."
- Current president is Hassan Rouhani (2013)- More moderate and brought "resurgence of hope" for change
- Helped initiate the first high-level talks with the U.S. in decades
- opened the country to some Western reporters but... Anatolia is in charge
- Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty -1970 (countries agree to not make nuclear weapons)--North Korea, India, Pakistan and Israel [Iran] broke treaty
- Nuclear Test Ban Treaty- 1963 (only underground test nuclear bomb)
- Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty- 1996 (no test on any nuclear weapons--but never officially signed--just applied)
- International Atomic Energy Agency- Watch dogs of nuclear weapons/ testing
- Missile Defense System- 1980's (Shoot dummy missile at real missile aimed towards us (gets it off track)
- Nuclear Program started in 50's and U.S. helped them (Help ended in 1970 with Iranian Revolution that toppled the pro-West government
- 2003 was when US Intelligence Agencies stated to think Iran was working towards nuclear weapons (They deny this all the time)
Friday- Went over Amendment projects and more Iran 101 facts (listed above)
- U.S. wants to eliminate Iran's ability to make a nuclear weapon
- Iran's Goal is to relief from economic Sanctions (not trading with other countries--hopefully this makes the poor to revolt against the rich)
- To maintain a peaceful nuclear program
- They have to okay monitoring by the supervisors
- Republicans feel that Obama is making a treaty that's not approved by Congress
