Monday- Started Japan presentations.
Japan was part of the Axis Alliance. Leaders of the Axis Powers were Adolf Hitler (Germany), Tojo Hideki (Japan) Benito Mussolini (Italy). Cost of the war for Japan was approximately $56 billion and many cities and lives lost. 2,120,000 military deaths and around 1,000,000 civilian deaths. Japans Goals were domination of Asia, natural resources and trade with the US.
The Japanese was suffering from the U.S. not trading due to the depression in the U.S and food had to be rationed. Health and living conditions deteriorated and bombings resulted in thousands of deaths.
Battle strategies of Japan included invading, defending, and suicide.
The U.S. dropped Nuclear Bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The Uranium bomb (little boy) killed 160,000 people. The plutonium bomb was called "fat man".
Finished the Japanese presentation. Mr. Bruns will go over his powerpoint on Japan tomorrow.
Tuesday- Went over the Japan powerpoint.
China was to Japan, what the Soviet Union was to Germany means that Japan would have liked to take over Japan but it was just to big. Just like The Soviet Union was to big for Germany to invade.
Japan was invading because of resources. They could not trade with the U.S. because we had large tariffs put on imported goods due to the great depression. Once they started invading and attacking places, we stopped trade with them completely.
Japan attempted to take over British Columbia, Kohima and Manipur, Colombo and Trincomalee, Dornod, and the United states. They attacked Pearl harbor, Midway Atoll, Fort Stevens, and Santa barbara.
After Japan invaded Manchuria the League of Nations condemned their actions but could not act because they did not want war.
Japan invaded China but did not succeed. They did very well at first but were not able to overthrow China. When Japan invaded China there was mass killing of Chinese people (300,000) people, mass raping of Chinese women and girls, mass looting and arson. Japan has still not acknowledged what happened in world war 2.
Japan sunk a U.S. ship on accident, thinking that it was a China ship. The U.S. ship was in China and Japan apologized and paid us money for the incident.
Wednesday- Continued reviewing the Japan powerpoint. Pearl Harbor happened December 7th, 1941 and we declared war on Japan December 8th, 1941.
Thursday- Continued reviewing. Test Friday. Talked about the bombs (manhattan project) and operation downfall that was planned but never took place because we dropped the atomic bombs on Japan. Little boy and fatboy. Democracy was promoted in Japan after the Potsdam treaty and today it is currently a democracy. Started episode two of the world wars.
Friday- Quiz. Continued watching the video.
